Understanding Our Audiences’ Attitudes to Climate Action
Performing Arts Forum is working with Indigo to deliver Act Green Ireland. This initiative invites theatres, arts centres, festivals, galleries, and touring companies across the country to take part in a nationwide audience research initiative exploring public attitudes towards the climate crisis and sustainability in the arts.
Inspired by the success of the UK’s Act Green, this research is free to participate in and open to all cultural organisations in Ireland. Participating organisations will receive a unique survey link to share with their audiences, and real-time access to their own results. These individual insights will also contribute to a collective national data set, providing a powerful baseline for the sector.
In 2024, over 17,000 audience members took part in Act Green in the UK, revealing a strong desire for arts organisations to lead by example — making their sustainability efforts visible, actionable, and accessible. The findings also highlighted the value audiences place on transparency, accreditation, and clear communication on environmental impact.
By taking part in Act Green Ireland, cultural organisations can deepen their understanding of their audiences’ expectations, strengthen their environmental communications, and join a growing, sector-wide conversation about climate leadership in the arts.
