The Basic Income for the Arts pilot scheme has opened for applications and will remain open until 1pm on Thursday 12th May. The scheme is being run by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

The Basic Income for the Arts pilot scheme aims to examine, over a three year period, the impact of a basic income on artists and creative arts workers. Payments of €325 per week will be made to 2,000 eligible artists and creative arts workers who will be selected at random and invited to take part.

The overarching objective of the scheme is to address the earnings instability that can be associated with the intermittent, periodic, and often project-based nature of work in the arts. The scheme will research the impact on artists and creative arts workers creative practice of providing the security of a basic income, thereby reducing income precarity.

The pilot scheme is open to eligible artists and creative arts sector workers.
