CONTRACT: 7 month, Fixed Term Contract
The Abbey Theatre is Ireland’s national theatre and occupies a unique position in the hearts and minds of Irish people. It has two theatres: the Abbey, with a capacity of 494 seats, and the Peacock, with a capacity of 132 seats. We produce a year-round Programme of productions, public readings, talks, workshops and artistic development work. We produce work at home and on tour, which not only showcases Irish and international theatre but also engages with the artistic and civic life of contemporary Ireland.
The Community and Education department is central to diversifying, deepening and widening public engagement at the Abbey Theatre. Its aim is to open the national theatre so everyone can participate. It does this by animating the artistic and creative programme through engagement with community organisations, educational institutions and the public.
This is 7 month fixed term contract to work in the Abbey Theatre’s Community and Education team.
This role will co-ordinate the delivery, administration, documentation of, and learnings from, projects such as:
School outreach programs and educational tours
Industry diversity and inclusion initiatives
Student work experience opportunities
Secondary school educational partnerships
Historical and cultural educational programs
Community engagement projects with migrant and refugee populations
Online educational resource development
Ongoing community relationship management and future project development
Financial administration for all of the above
Preparing research briefs for the Community and Education Manager when appropriate
This role will report to and support the Community and Education Manager.
This role requires an immediate start and requires somebody with the ability to work on site, with occasional travel to schools, workshops and community groups. The role needs a person with good co-ordination and administration skills and ideally some experience of working in a school, community and/or theatre setting. Software skills in Microsoft Office are a requirement.
This is a fixed term contract that focuses on supporting the delivery of work already programmed by the department. It will be predominantly administrative.
