PLEASE NOTE: This training is intended for the CEO and chair of organisations to attend together. We cannot accept applications from individuals to attend without their respective CEO or Chair.

The performance of any charity or not-for-profit is underpinned by the relationship that exists between the CEO/Manager and Chair. This training explores this critical Management/Governance dynamic and is relevant to both seasoned practitioners and those just stepping up to the top job. Particularly in challenging times, it is important to focus your board and organisation in moving forward. A strong CEO/Manager and Chair relationship will help achieve this.

Main topics will include:

  • The changing environment in which board members and charities have to operate;
  • Ensuring a deep understanding by Chair and CEO of the fundamentals of governance;
  • Role and expectations of the Chair;
  • Ensuring boards fulfil their governance role;
  • The three key strands of governance: corporate/fiduciary; strategic and impact;
  • Making informed decisions;
  • Making sure your board is addressing the right issues;
  • Chair/CEO and CEO/board relationship: Behaviours that can damage the relationship;
  • Refreshing the board and finding new board members;
  • Case study exercise.
