This introductory workshop invites stage managers to learn basic tools for navigating consent, boundaries, and sensitivities. Participants will learn about the process of consent-based practices in planning, rehearsal, tech and performance to provide ongoing support of actors and their own team while creating intimate content on stage.

This training session is catered for stage managers within theatre, opera and dance. Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least two years of professional experience in the discipline of stage management. Applicants should be 18+.

Topics will include:

  • Exploring conditions that can best support creation of intimate content
  • Principles of consent-based practice
  • Guidance on planning intimacy rehearsals and closed rehearsal rooms, tech and run
  • Observing and maintaining boundaries during the rehearsal process
  • Exploring the role of Intimacy Captain
  • More effective communication around supporting intimate content
  • The role of an Intimacy Director and how can they support your work
  • Guidance on documentation
  • Sourcing, fitting and making intimacy garments
  • Crew briefings
  • Closure, deroling and self-care

Please note: Please wear loose clothing as there will be practical work on the floor. There will be no nudity, lip-to-lip contact or acting of intimate scenes.

  • Alternatively, we will contact you to request the above information following your registration of interest. Places will be offered based on eligibility ​and on a first come first served basis.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Thurs 7 November.

Cost: €15 (Access costs will be covered, and travel bursaries will be offered to participants based outside Dublin – applicants must be resident on the island of Ireland)

NB: Please note that this workshop is not training to become an intimacy professional but is an introduction to principle that can influence an artist’s current practice.
